YOU Season 4 Part 1 | SOMEBODY I USED TO KNOW | THE UNSETTLING
Pop Culture Weekly Round-Up 10/02/2023
Hello, everyone I’m back to give you some Pop Culture recommendations for your weekend. In this week’s newsletter, I talk about Part 1 of the fourth season of the Netflix hit series YOU. I also share my thoughts about two movies. The Amazon Prime rom-com SOMEBODY I USED TO KNOW and the very creepy THE UNSETTLING which is out on VOD today. I’m also sharing a five-song playlist with some tunes I enjoyed during the week.
QUICK THOUGHTS
YOU Season 4 Part 1 makes Joe take a break from his typical menacing behavior. This time around he focuses more on finding who is attempting to frame him for murder. Joe, who is living in Europe now, assumes a new identity (Jonathan Moore) and lands a position as a professor of American literature at a university in London. In my opinion, his adventures this season are a welcome break from his regular antics, and it's fun to see him working toward a different objective. It's also interesting to see how the show criticizes the wealthy class because Joe/Jonathan unintentionally becomes engaged with a very gross London elite social group. The season's main lady is called Kate. She is the perfect model of a rich English person. She has a dry and boring personality which meshes perfectly with the show's themes this season. The production values of the series this season are excellent as usual, and the set designs really transport you to Europe. YOU Season 4 Part 1 is overall enjoyable and kept me engaged and guessing until the very end. If you are a fan of the shown, this is a must-watch season. But if you never watched it before, I would suggest giving it a chance. It can be a bit cheese sometimes but it is highly entertaining.
SOMEBODY I USED TO KNOW is a delightful romantic comedy and the second feature film directed by Dave Franco. Alison Brie stars as a hardworking TV producer who returns to her hometown of Leavenworth, WA to start fresh after her show gets canceled. Once back in town, she runs into an old flame and finds herself re-evaluating some of her past decisions and pondering her future. The film is an excellent blend of charm, humor, and heartfelt drama that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy. The performances from both leads are great, and the soundtrack is an excellent addition to the overall atmosphere of the film. SOMEBODY I USED TO KNOW is a pleasant and enjoyable movie and if you are into romcoms, it will leave you feeling satisfied.
THE UNSETTLING was directed by Harry Owens and tells the story of a couple who are struggling to move on from a traumatic event. The film is a genre-bending drama, horror, and mystery set in the suburbs of the United States and it examines the dark energy that can pervade a seemingly perfect home. As the couple's grief continues to haunt them, they experience a series of terrifying visions and mysterious dream states that lead to a confrontation with an unspeakable evil. With a great atmosphere, a captivating story, and intense visuals, THE UNSETTLING has some really creepy moments and interesting themes. I also liked the compelling and mysterious plot, strong acting performances, and complex themes. I recommend this one for people who love slow-burn movies.

These were the 5 songs on heavy rotation in my house last week. You can listen to them on Spotify and YouTube.
I *just* watched S1E1 of You yesterday--how have I not watched this until now?! So I'm skipping your write-up on that because I don't wanna know until I get there.
Looking forward to checking out Somebody I Used to Know, but I'll be skipping The Unsettling. Not my jam.
